But since the "Power for Pennies" thing seems to be up on the popular stories bar forever, I'm wondering if any of you have taken advantage of it and what kind of stories you have from your experiences so far.

Never experienced it, but I've always heard when someone tells you something is cheap and easy, prepare to be robbed and mind fucked.

It seems like it'd be doable but have a lot of opportunity cost/require you to be a solid mechanic.

The amount of time needed to recoup your costs by selling parts would be an obnoxious hassle. Personally I'll front the $4k to just have what I want delivered to me.
Smog laws in California mean i could only do it in a pre-1974(5?) car though. Doesn't really help me when the two non-running cars I have are a Tracker and a Camry.
